Description
Formulation: Metformin HCl 1g
Indication/s:
Adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in Type II Diabetes Mellitus.
Contraindication/s:
Hypersensitivity, history of lactic acidosis, acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, severe renal impairment, cardiac and respiratory failure.
Storage Condition:
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
Dosage and Administration:
- Dosage must be individualized based on effectiveness and tolerance, without exceeding the maximum recommended daily dose.
Special Instructions:
- May provoke or augment lactic acidosis, especially at high blood concentrations.
- Patients should monitor for symptoms of lactic acidosis. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite.
Mechanism of Action:
- Metformin is a biguanide antidiabetic agent that improves both peripheral and hepatic insulin sensitivity.
- It reduces hepatic glucose production, enhances peripheral glucose uptake, and delays intestinal glucose absorption.
