Description

Formulation: Metformin HCl 500 mg

Indication/s:

Adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in Type II Diabetes Mellitus.

Contraindication/s:

Hypersensitivity, history of lactic acidosis, acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, severe renal impairment, cardiac and respiratory failure.

Storage Condition:

Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Extended-release tablet is for once-daily dosing. Dosage must be individualized based on effectiveness and tolerance, without exceeding maximum recommended daily dose.

Special Instructions:

  • Swallow extended-release tablet whole. Do not chew or crush.
  • May provoke or augment lactic acidosis, especially at high concentrations in the blood.
  • Patients should monitor for symptoms of lactic acidosis. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite.

Mechanism of Action:

  • Biguanide antidiabetic agent that improves both peripheral and hepatic insulin sensitivity.
  • Reduces hepatic glucose production, enhances peripheral glucose uptake, and delays intestinal glucose absorption.
